Flooding and slips have shut SH6 between Havelock and Rai as road bosses warn drivers to delay travel.
Bad weather is affecting the Top of the South, with the usual route to Nelson from Blenheim now closed for safety reasons.

Waka Kotahi is urging drivers to take extreme care and to obey road closures, a spokesperson says.
"Ignoring closures endangers you and those who may need to rescue you.
"Please do not drive through floodwaters. Currents may be stronger than you expect and floodwaters can hide unseen dangers."
The Wairau River has burst its banks in some parts with water levels still rising.

Contractors are dealing with slips and rockfalls across the region and more road closures are possible should the situation worsen.
Drivers should delay their journey or use an alternative route when travelling from Marlborough to Nelson, via SH63, St Arnaud.
