Lawyer killed in crash

A Blenheim lawyer has died after his motorcycle was involved in a crash.

Respected barrister and solicitor Philip Watson died on Sunday at the scene of the accident that closed the Lindis Pass on State Highway 8 for most of the day.

He was a well-known figure in Marlborough and owned Watson Legal on Scott Street, specialising in criminal legal aid and relationship property cases.

Another person was flown to hospital with moderate injuries.

The crash, involving a motorcycle and a car happened about 8.30am near the top of the pass.

In a statement police confirmed the motorcyclist died at the scene, while the driver and sole occupant of the car had moderate injuries.

The road reopened just after 4pm.

A police spokesperson said on Monday no charges had been laid at this stage.
