Health bosses are urging people still to be vaccinated to roll up their sleeves before summer.

Nelson Marlborough Health staff want to see the public get two doses of the vaccine before the busier season gets underway.

And a special event will be held on Saturday to help encourage as many people as possible to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Super Saturday will be held this weekend on 16 October at both Westwood Business Park near Kmart and at Redwoodtown School in Blenheim.

The move is part of a nationwide bid to get New Zealand’s vaccination rates to at least 90 percent.

In information about the event, a spokeswoman says it has never been so vital for people to step forward for their communities.

“We all have a role to play in protecting ourselves, our whānau and our community by getting vaccinated.

“So, everyone is being asked to contribute to a big, nationwide push for vaccination. This will build up to a national day of action for vaccination.

“The more people who are fully vaccinated, the more protection we have against COVID-19 and this gives us more freedom – freedom of concerns, for summer, of lockdowns and pressures and barriers to access and taking action.”

Pop up clinics will be held this Friday at MySpace Marlborough Youth Trust on Kinross Street between 10am and 3pm with a free BBQ and music also on offer.

On Saturday at Westwood there will be food trucks, a coffee cart, sausage sizzle and ice cream as well as spot prizes up for grabs.

People aged between 12 and 18 years old who get a vaccine by 26 October will go in a draw to win one of four iphones, six iPads and one of 60 $50 data top up cards.

Kaupapa Māori clinics run by Te Piki Oranga nurses will be held at

·       Thursday 21 October, Waikawa Marae, 210 Waikawa Road, Picton between 10am - 6pm.

·       Saturday 6 November, Ūkaipō, 1 Fell Street, Grovetown between 9am - 4pm

·       Thursday 11 November, Waikawa Marae, 210 Waikawa Road, from 10am.
