Marlborough’s often-fragile batting will be put to the test when they take on Nelson in their first Hawke Cup zone three elimination match at Saxton Oval on Saturday and Sunday.

The pressure will be on young players such as Joel Lavender, Cooper Roberts and Corey Bovey to produce with the bat, alongside the more established batsman such as Tom Sutherland, skipper Matthew Stretch, Tarin Mason and Akhil Pant.

Mason and Nick Weaver will spearhead the pace bowling, alongside youngster Joel Pannell, while Sutherland, Stretch and Tim Petrie will share the spinning duties. Tom Leonard is the keeper.

Nelson briefly had their hands on the prestigious trophy last season and, like Marlborough, are in a rebuilding phase, fielding a youthful line-up.

The match begins at 10.30am each day, with a minimum of 110 overs to be bowled. The umpires will be Neil Capstick and Andrew Holdaway.

Marlborough: Joel Lavender, Cameron Collins, Cooper Roberts, Tom Sutherland, Tarin Mason, Matthew Stretch (c), Corey Bovey, Ahkil Pant, Nick Weaver, Tim Petrie, Tom Leonard, Joel Pannell.

Nelson: Ollie Jones-Allen (c), Nic Clark, Finn Raxworthy, Thomas Zohrab, Jonty Raxworthy, Josh Smith, Alex Brogan, Sean Neal, James Graham, Mitch Bailey, Ronan Restieaux, Josh Newport.
