Competition is keen on the Marlborough lawn bowls scene.

Several of the season’s main titles have been decided over recent months, with a wide number of the region’s leading exponents, from a variety of clubs, sharing the trophies around.

There has also been some success on the representative scene, with the women’s senior combination winning the Higgins Trophy inter-centre fixture against West Coast, Buller and a hotly-favoured Nelson side.

The Marlborough team comprised: Glenda Bishop, LaRita Franklin, Rebecca Walker, Pam Stevens, Judith Tootell, Jan Gallop, Val Symes, Kiri Bond, Helen McIsaac, Trish Downs, Patsy Riri, Noeline Bryant and Colleen Robbins.

Centre competition results for the season so far:

Cloudy Bay men’s open fours: winners Josh Boyd, Scott Mansfield, Warren Brown, LeRoy Waihirere (Kaikoura); runner-up Sanjhe Prasad, Simon Hitchcock, Damin Hitchcock, Craig MacDonell (Riverside).

G J Gardiner women’s open fours: winners Trish Downs, Patsy Riri, Francis Bradley, Noeline Bryant (Havelock); runner-up Kiri Bond, Alisa Waters, A Berrie, Eden Murrell-Manu (Picton).

Peter Baker women’s open pairs: winners Dot Capill, Jan Gallop (Blenheim); runner-up Kiri Bond, Eden Murrell-Manu (Picton).

McKendry Motors men’s open pairs: winners Maurice Symes, Kevan Greenwood, (Renwick); runner-up Josh Boyd, Scott Mansfield (Kaikoura).

Rodger Jones Bayley’s Real Estate women’s open triples: winners Dot Capill, Val Montgomery, Jan Gallop (Blenheim); runner-up Thora Lawson, Mary Riddell, Carolyn Heays (Takahanga).

Lynford’s men’s open singles: winner Simon Hitchcock; runner-up Mark Grenfell (Picton).

Gold stars: Josh Boyd (Kaikoura) and Noeline Bryant have attained their Gold Stars for winning five centre titles.

Women’s Inter-Club: Roy McArtney Club 4 winner – Blenheim; runner-up Takahanga. Allison Smith 2 senior/2 junior winner – Havelock; runner-up Picton.

National Inter-Club 3x5s: winners Blenheim BC (Maurice Symes, Val Symes, Jan Gallop).

Super Liquor 2x4x2 mixed pairs winners: Chase Bishop/Glenda Bishop; runner-up Mike Pestno/Linda Lucas.

Town v Country winners (combined men and women): Country 189 points, Town 187.
