Rugby semis tomorrow

It is semifinal time in the Marlborough rugby sub-union competition tomorrow.

In division one, two exciting and potentially-close matches will be played.

Top qualifier Central host fourth-placed Moutere/Awatere at Lansdowne Park, the combined side coming off a strong performance against Renwick last week.

Renwick are at home to Waitohi in the other semi. In their earlier meeting this season Renwick won the battle of the second and third-placed qualifiers 27-5 and will be hoping to repeat that effort as they look towards bagging their first Marlborough premier title.

The latter match begins at 2.30pm, the Central v Moutere/Awatere clash kicking off at 3pm.

In division two, top qualifier Central host MBC Old Boys at Lansdowne Park, with a 12.45pm kick-off, while Moutere and Awatere face off at Awarua Park, with a 1.15pm start.

The Marlborough Boys’ College First XV take on St Bede’s College, the top side in the Miles Toyota Championship, in Christchurch, the match starting at 11am.

The Tasman Mako women continue their Farah Palmer Cup championship campaign, taking on Taranaki in New Plymouth, with a 12.05pm kick-off.

Football

Rangers AFC face a crucial Nelson division one match at A and P Park on Saturday. After losing last week they currently share top of the table with FC Nelson. Tomorrow they take on Motueka, the match kicking off at 3pm, hoping to regain their winning ways.

BV Bullets, who play in the Nelson division one women’s league, are on the road, taking on table-toppers Richmond Foxes at Jubilee Park, Nelson. The game begins at 3pm.

On the local scene, with there being no play over the past two weeks, the Knockout Cup competition has been paused, resuming on August 21.

Tomorrow the final club competition begins, the 12 senior teams split into four divisions. In division one Call Care Trojans play Rangers Development in the first round at A&P Park, kick off 12.30pm, while Central Wolves meet Central Buccaneers at Renwick. This match begins at 2.30pm.

In division two, BV Masters play Central Privateers and Call Care Hotspurs meet Rangers Clubs of Marlborough at A&P Park, both games beginning at 2.30pm.

In division three, Rangers Masters take on Call Care Spartans at 12.30pm at A&P while Picton and Redwood meet in Picton at 2.30pm.

Netball

Tuesday’s round three of the premier netball competition sees Pelorus meeting Tokomaru Crafar Crouch at 6pm, MGC taking on Harlequins at 7.45pm and Awatere playing the Tokomaru Picton Motordrome combined side at 7.45pm.

Hockey

The premier competition resumes on Saturday. MBC take on Beawai at 1.30pm, then Arotea Kiwi play United at 3pm.
