Four players with Marlborough connections were named in the South Island side at the conclusion of the New Zealand over-50 interprovincial cricket tournament on Monday.

A North Island side and a South Island side were chosen to contest the annual Pete Escott Trophy series.

Representing the South Island will be Marlborough cricketing stalwart Greg Stretch, plus former Marlborough rep players Scott McHardy, Mason Robinson and Jason Campbell.

Selection was based on where the players were born.

The teams will meet for two matches in Wellington on March 4 and March 6. The trophy is currently held by the South Island.

After the series a New Zealand squad will be named that will hopefully tour Australia in July or August.

The teams:

North Island: Adrian Dale (captain), Dean Askew, Jon Cleland, Simon Dodds, Stephen Hewson, Aaron Hills, Robert Horner, Chris Jeffries, Colin Owens, Neil Ronaldson,  Adil Somani, Ben Warren.

South Island:  Richard Petrie (captain), Jason Campbell, Matthew Everest, John Garry, Craig Gibb, Andrew Hore, Scott Mason, Scott McHardy, Andrew Nuttall, Mason Robinson, Kelvin Scott, Greg Stretch.
