Women cricketers finish season in style

The province’s female cricketers finished their season with a well-contested hard ball game at Horton Park recently.

Many of the players involved had been involved in the social mid-week competition. After showing interest in a hard ball encounter, two teams of 10 turned up at Horton Park on Saturday, March 27.

The Red team, captained by Caroline Aberhart, batted first and scored 80 which was chased down by the Yellow team, led by Carly Englefield.

The Red team’s player of the day was Nadine Rarity while Joanna Vercoe was Yellow’s top performer.

Marlborough Cricket spokesman Greg Stretch said, “It was great to see competitive women’s cricket on Horton Park 1. Everyone enjoyed it and they are keen for more games next season.

“Next season the aim is to have a Marlborough women’s team with a view to playing representative matches.”
