Relay for Life: Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back

Relay for Life 2023 is fast approaching, and organisers are inviting all members with a personal experience of cancer to join them at any of the organised Relay for Life events.

Kicking things off on Saturday, March 4 at 12pm, the Survivors and Carers Reception will be hosted at Lansdowne Parks sports hub.

“Attendees are invited for light refreshments and as our guest of honour, they’ll be invited to add their handprint to the Relay banner and help lead the lap of the Opening Ceremony of the Relay at 2pm.”

The Relay for Life fundraiser is hosted every two years and helps our local Marlborough centre to continue providing cancer care for patients and their whānau, provide education and awareness programmes, and fund life-saving cancer research.

Organisers are excited to bring new elements to the fundraiser to keep participants going all through the night.

The Kete Kai Night Market will be hosted from 5pm to 9pm showcasing food stalls and arts and crafts from throughout the Marlborough region, and at 10pm the community is invited to join Relay participants for the Candlelight Ceremony where decorated candle bags are placed around the track as glowing tributes to loved ones.

“We’re encourage the support from the wider community.

"The evening’s event is open to everyone, they can support the event by cheering on a team or walk a few laps, purchase Relay for Life merchandise or decorate a candle bag in time for the Candlelight ceremony.

"We’re encouraging teams to make sure they register all their teammates, so they can access the overnight hospitality and activities on offer for participants. We have a free promotional code for young people to participate, we’d love to see the community turn out in support of this unique event.”

The important event raises vital funds to enable organisers to fight back against cancer as well as raise awareness of local cancer services and initiatives that support the community.
