Fire crews were called out to a raging rubbish fire at about 6.30 tonight.

Concerned members of the public called in the fire, on Middle Renwick Road near Pak'n'Save, fearing a house was ablaze.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Lyn Crosson says the rubbish fire was burning quite well, and fire fighters intervened to knock it back to a more manageable state.

Crews from Blenheim urban and rural fire services attended the call and have since mostly left, leaving the property owners to deal with the remaining, more manageable fire.
