Roads are closed as a deluge of rain and hail slams Blenheim.
About 44mm has fallen on the town centre in the last hour, as measured at the council building - MetService had forecast about 6mm for the evening.
The surrounding areas have been spared with no to light rain falling outside the town centre.
Streets have turned to rivers, and Kinross Street is confirmed closed. Police are advising motorists to slow down. Driving fast can cause more damage to the roads.
Marlborough District Council staff are also warning against driving through floodwater.
In a Facebook post, they say it's best to stay off the roads in Blenheim this evening if you can.
Other streets may be damaged or dangerous to drive on and it is advised to exercise caution.
Waka Kotahi New Zealand transport has issued a storm damage caution for SH 63, from Renwick to Tophouse.
Hutcheson Street residents are also appealing to motorists to slow down as water is pushed in waves onto properties.
If you are in danger dial 111.
