Two evenly-matched sides have been named for the first senior rep fixture of the 2021-22 cricket season.

On Sunday at Horton Park, the Marlborough team will attempt to defend the prized Newman Shield against traditional rival Nelson.

There is a change in leadership for the home side, with Tom Sutherland captaining the Marlborough white ball side this season. Regular skipper Matthew Stretch will take the reins for the Hawke Cup Campaign.

Both sides have plenty of bowling options and some class batsmen, making for what is expected to be a closely-fought encounter.

Teams for Sunday

Marlborough: Joel Lavender, Greg Knowles, Cooper Roberts, Corey Bovey, Tarin Mason, Luke Frankland, Matthew Stretch, Tom Sutherland (captain), Ahkil Pant, Jerrym Lamb, Nick Weaver, Joel Pannell.
Nelson: Ollie Jones-Allen (captain), Nic Clark, James Graham, Jonty Raxworthy, David Zohrab, Josh Smith, Jack Aldridge, Sean Neal, Mitch Bailey, Ronan Restieaux, Josh Newport, Matty O'Sullivan.

The game starts at 11am.
