Sporting weekend in prospect

The return of the long-standing Woodbourne Half Marathon marks this sporting weekend.

The 38th edition of the popular event will take place at Base Woodbourne on Sunday morning.

The Half Marathon is run over a measured one-lap circuit. The course is a circuit along vineyard tracks, then up Brancott Rd, across Wrekin Rd and down Brookby Rd. The start/finish line is opposite the Woodbourne Gym.

Half Marathon entries closed on August 12, although late entries will be accepted up till 8.30am on the day for the Walk and Hybrid and 9.15am for the run. An additional fee of $10.00 will be imposed on late entries. On line entries via Eventfinda will incur a non-refundable booking fee of $5.
10km and 5km Fun Runs entries will be accepted up to 9:45am on the day of the event. No late fee for Fun Runs.

Start times
9am Half Marathon Walk and Hybrid.
10am Half Marathon Run.
10:15am 5 & 10 km Fun Run/walk (fun runs are completely off road).

Rugby

The Mako men take on Auckland at Nelson’s Trafalgar Park tomorrow, a repeat of last year’s premiership final. The game begins at 2.05pm.

Meanwhile, the Mako women are in Napier, taking on Hawke’s Bay in the Farah Palmer Cup. They kick off at 2.35pm tomorrow.

The Marlborough Boys’ College First XV play what may be their final game of the season tomorrow, taking on St Thomas of Canterbury in a Plate semifinal in Christchurch. The match kicks off at 11am.

Football

Rangers AFC face a pivotal Nelson men’s division one encounter tomorrow, taking on FC Nelson at A&P Park. FC Nelson sit just a single point behind Rangers in the standings, with two more rounds of the league remaining. If the local side hope to defend their league crown a win tomorrow is vital. Kick-off is 3pm.

Meanwhile BV Bullets play Nelson women’s division one rivals Nelson Suburbs at Saxton Park tomorrow, also with a 3pm kick-off.

In local action, Central Buccaneers meet Call Care Trojans at Renwick and Central Wolves play Rangers Development at A&P in the division one matches, both starting at 2.30pm.

In division two, Rangers COM meet BV Masters and Call Care at 12.30pm while Call Care Hotspurs play Central Privateers at 2.30pm. Both games are at A&P Park.

Redwood play Rangers Masters in Renwick at 12.30pm, while Picton tackle Call Care Trojans at Endeavour Park at 2.30pm in division three.

Netball

In Tuesday’s premier netball action at Stadium 2000, Pelorus take on the mixed Tokomaru Picton Motordrome side at 6pm, MGC play Tokomaru Crafar Crouch at 7.45, the same time as Harlequins line up against Awatere.

Hockey

The premier grade semifinal will be played tomorrow, United taking on MBC at 1.30pm and Arotea Kiwi meeting Beawai at 3pm.

The under-15 rep boys and girls teams will also be in action, taking on Nelson and West Coast opposition.
